Performance

With its low centre of inertia and the wide tracks of its front chassis, the Peugeot 308 displays aggressive handling qualities. These qualities are the result of Peugeot's knowledge and experience in terms of road holding. The braking performance of the Peugeot 308 features amongst the best on the market, thanks to the large dimension brake discs. With the 308, Peugeot stakes its claim on setting the standard in environmental efficiency with its innovative e-HDi micro-hybrid technology and Stop & Start system.

e-HDi Micro-hybrid technology Protecting our planet's future is one of today's greatest challenges. Peugeot has risen to this challenge by endowing its 308 range with an e-HDi engine featuring the next-gen Stop & Start system, which uses reversible-alternator technology to automatically turn off the engine whenever the car stops moving, such as at a red light or a stop sign. One distinctive feature of this new system is the seamless restart when the driver is ready to get the car moving again. As a result, e-HDi ensures improved fuel consumption and reduced CO2 emissions. The technology is coupled with a sex-speed semi-auto EGC gearbox.

HDi - Diesel engine This advanced turbo diesel engine is coupled with either a 6-speed manual or 6-speed automatic transmission and delivers effortless performance and dynamism to make driving a pleasure. Fitted with Peugeot's revolutionary Particle Emission Filter (FAP) system, it is also exceptionally clean and complies with the tough Euro 5 emissions control standards.

Petrol engines Each of the three petrol engines available in the 308 range has been designed to deliver maximum performance along with optimised fuel efficiency for its cubic capacity. All offer the benefits of variable valve timing for immediate throttle response at all speeds and in all situations.

Road handling The Peugeot 308 is tailored for the road; both in the town and the countryside. On the open road, the excellent rigidity of the body and the chassis components provide an excellent ratio between road holding and comfort. On-board, the electro-hydraulic power-assisted steering system offers the driver accurate and comfortable driving. Furthermore, the wide tracks and the large dimension tyres contribute to the car's poise on the road.

Environment

The Peugeot 308 meets today's environmental challenges with its tried-and-tested HDi diesel technology combined with the FAP particle filter, along with ground-breaking new solutions such as our e-HDi micro-hybrid Stop and Stop technology

. The 308 offers fuel consumption as low as 4.2L/100km and CO2 emissions as low as 109g/km.

Every diesel engine generates particles. At Peugeot, we should know. Because we pioneered the use of particulate filters (FAP) in our diesels. FAP reduces particle emissions to barely measurable levels before they can escape into the environment. It works by trapping and burning these particles which combine to form soot. What's more, the FAP particle filter is self cleaning and is virtually maintenance free, all without spoiling the performance of your 308 HDi.

Euro 5 standard Continuing Peugeot's commitment to the minimisation of the environmental impact its of motor vehicles and significantly reducing fuel consumption, CO2 and other emissions, every engine in the 308 range already complies with the stringent Euro 5 emission standard - in advance of its required European introduction.

Aerodynamics play a large part in the environmental performance of a vehicle: more aerodynamic cars need less fuel to get moving which in turn means they produce less pollution. Which is why we've designed the 308 to be as sleek and streamlined as possible, reducing its drag co-efficient to just 0.29.

Worried about landfill? So are we. That's why at least 95% of every new 308 is recyclable, including the metals, glass, fluids, plastic materials and rubber. And we're well on the way to creating the fully recyclable car.

Carbon sink project Our commitment to the environment extends beyond our cars. In 1998, we set up a major ecological sponsorship by helping to create a 'carbon sink' (an area of plant life specifically set aside and developed to absorb atmospheric CO2) in the Amazon. Over 2 million trees representing 50 different species have been planted, which will allow scientists to study the relationship between reforestation, absorption of CO2 and climate control. Operation Carbon reflects the determination to fight as directly and effectively as possible against the increasing greenhouse effect.

People come first with us. That's why we've taken all the features you can't see on the 308 as seriously as those you can.

Airbags When involved in a collision, a complete suite of passive safety measures are activated to protect the occupants of the Peugeot 308. Shocks are absorbed through the collapsible steering column and the passenger safety cell of the car has been designed to limit the intrusion of the engine into the cabin. The front seat belt pretensioners are pyrotechnic devices to keep you firmly in your seat and a total of 6 airbags protect the passengers.
